Wolfgang Brötz
I believe coaching is just clarity, applied to yourself.
One real conversation beats a year of waiting for the right moment.
In my online coaching (German or English), we find solutions where you haven't looked before.

My Background
• 25+ years in finance (corporate, banking, asset management, startups)
• Understanding the technical and human aspects of finance in the role of CFO
• Navigated restructures, mergers, and leadership pressure
• Advanced coaching and stress management techniques

I have walked in your shoes.

Is This You? - You have the financial runway. But you haven't started your next chapter yet.
Expand the arrows for extra info.
You know you could make a bold move. You just can't name what's stopping you.
You've run the numbers. The financial cushion is there. The skills, the network, the reputation, all there. But every time you get close to a decision, something pulls you back. Not fear exactly. Not logic. Something you can't quite put into words. And that ambiguity (the kind you'd never tolerate in a board presentation) is quietly running your life.
You're still performing at the top. But it feels increasingly hollow.
The results are good. The title is impressive. But somewhere between the quarterly close and the next leadership offsite, you've started asking: is this still it for me? You don't say it out loud. You're not sure you're allowed to. But the question doesn't go away.
You keep postponing the decision and calling it "not the right time."
There's always a reason to wait. One more quarter. One more restructure. One more milestone. You'd call this out immediately in a strategic planning session. But when it's your own next chapter on the table, the fog feels different. More personal. Harder to cut through alone.
You bring forensic clarity to every major decision at work. Except this one.
You have a framework for everything. Except yourself. And that gap between the sharpness you bring to a €500M deal and the blur you live with around your own future is the most expensive blind spot you're carrying right now.
I believe naming what's holding you back is a skill. Coaching unlocks it.

Is Your Work Charging You — or Draining You?
Most leaders focus on what they work on. High performers also pay attention to how they feel while doing it. The Energy/Impact Matrix shows you the difference — and gives you a clear, actionable plan to shift it.
You're Busy. But Are You Thriving?
You tick off your to-do list. You hit your deadlines. You show up — every single day. And yet something feels off. The work drains you more than it energizes you. You're performing, but not flourishing.
This isn't a time management problem. It's an energy management problem. The calendar is full, but the fuel tank is empty.
"You can do all the right things and still burn out — if your mental state is working against you."
Introducing the Energy/Impact Matrix
Two axes. Four quadrants. One honest picture of your working life.
Impact Axis
Does this activity truly move the needle? High-impact work drives meaningful results — for your team, your organization, and your goals. Low-impact work fills time without propelling progress.
🔋 Energy Axis
Does this activity charge your battery or drain it? Energy isn't just about how hard the task is — it's about the mental state you bring to it and whether the work itself fuels or depletes you.
Where your activities fall across these two dimensions reveals more about your performance and wellbeing than any calendar audit ever could. Most people are surprised — and enlightened — by what the map shows them.
The Four Zones of Your Work
Plot any activity on two dimensions — energy and impact — and it lands in one of four zones. Each zone tells a different story about how you're spending your most valuable resource.
🟢 Optimal Work
High Impact · Battery Charging
This is where your best thinking, leadership, and creativity live. Impact is high and your energy is replenished — not despite the work, but because of it. Target: 75–80% of your week.
🟡 Temptations & Breaks
Low Impact · Battery Charging
Energizing but not particularly productive. These activities are fine in moderation — rest and recovery matter. But be honest: are they becoming avoidance? Use them intentionally, not reflexively.
🟠 Obligations
High Impact · Battery Draining
Important work, but it costs you. Status meetings, compliance reviews, difficult conversations — necessary, yet exhausting. Too much time here is the fast lane to burnout. Minimize and mitigate where possible.
🔴 Waste of Time
Low Impact · Battery Draining
The double tax: low value and high cost. These activities drain your energy without delivering meaningful results. Ruthlessly eliminate, automate, or decline these wherever possible.
Your Target: 75–80% in Optimal Work
The top-right quadrant is where your best thinking, leadership, and creativity live. It's where impact is high and your energy is charging — not despite the work, but because of it.
Most people, when they map their week honestly, are surprised by how little time they actually spend here. The Obligations pile up. The draining tasks multiply. The energizing, high-impact work gets squeezed to the margins.
The good news: you don't need a new job or a lighter workload. You need a new map — and three clear strategies to act on it. Small, deliberate shifts compound into a fundamentally different working experience.

Core Strategies
proven approaches to shift your balance toward sustained high performance
20min
To Map It
is all it takes to complete your matrix and identify your biggest leverage points
3 Ways to Improve Your Energy/Impact Balance
You don't need a total overhaul. You need targeted moves. These three strategies give you the leverage to shift your matrix — starting this week.
Shift from Saboteur to Sage
The most powerful move available to you. Same task, completely different mental state — from anxious and reactive to calm and purposeful. Many Obligations become Optimal Work simply by intercepting your Saboteur patterns before they hijack your energy. This is an inside job, and it's the highest-leverage shift you can make.
Delegate or Trade
Does this task have to be you? Draining, low-impact work that belongs to someone else is costing you more than you think — in energy, in focus, and in opportunity cost. Identify what you're holding onto out of habit or control rather than necessity, and let it go deliberately and without guilt.
Rebalance Time Allocation
Sometimes the schedule itself needs redesigning. If your calendar doesn't reflect your priorities, it's running you — not the other way around. Audit your recurring commitments, protect your peak-energy hours for Optimal Work, and deliberately reduce time spent in draining, low-impact activities.
Map Your Matrix — Right Now
Place your key activities into the four quadrants — first as they are today, then as you want them to be. The gap between the two is not a problem. It's your action plan.
How to Use the Tool
01
List your key activities
Think of the 8–12 tasks and responsibilities that make up the bulk of your working week.
02
Place them honestly
For each activity, rate impact and energy as they actually are — not as you wish they were.
03
Map your desired state
Where do you want each activity to land? This becomes your north star.
04
Identify your moves
Apply the three strategies to bridge the gap between current and desired.
Open the Interactive Tool
Use the full-screen matrix tool to map your activities visually and build your personalized action plan.
Takes 20–30 minutes. The clarity it creates lasts much longer.
Why Your Saboteurs Are Hijacking Your Energy
Your Saboteurs — the inner voices that drive stress, perfectionism, people-pleasing, and hyper-vigilance — don't just affect your mood. They actively pull high-impact work out of the Optimal zone and into the Obligations zone, even when the task itself is meaningful.
🏆 Hyper-Achiever
Drives performance from fear of failure rather than purpose and genuine engagement. The work feels draining because the motivation is anxiety, not meaning — even when the impact is genuinely high.
📐 Stickler
Demands perfection at the cost of energy, speed, and sometimes relationships. Every task becomes a drain because "good enough" never feels acceptable — even when it objectively is.
👁 Hyper-Vigilant
Constantly scanning for what could go wrong. Keeps you in a low-grade state of stress and alert that slowly but surely erodes your battery, even during activities that should be energizing.
Identifying your Saboteur interference patterns is the first — and most powerful — step to reclaiming your Energy/Impact balance.
Your Step-by-Step Process
This module is designed to be completed in a focused 20–30 minute session. Follow these steps in order for the clearest, most actionable result.
01
Complete the Saboteur Interference Step
Before mapping your matrix, identify which Saboteur voices are most active in your work. Understand how they shift activities from Optimal to Obligations — or from Obligations to pure drain.
02
Map Your Current Matrix
Be honest, not aspirational. Place each of your key work activities where they actually land today — not where you wish they were. Accuracy here is what makes the whole exercise valuable.
03
Create Your Desired Matrix
Now the aspirational version. Where do you want each activity to land? Which quadrant represents its true potential — for your energy and for your impact?
04
Build Your Transition Plan
Use the three strategies — Sage shift, Delegate or Trade, Rebalance — to map specific actions for moving each activity toward Optimal Work. Name the move, name the timeline.

This process takes 20–30 minutes. The clarity — and the performance lift — it creates lasts much, much longer.
The Best Leaders Don't Just Manage Their Time. They Protect Their Energy.
Every shift toward Optimal Work — however small — compounds. Better decisions. Stronger presence. More creative thinking. More sustainable, resilient performance over the long arc of a career.
You already do important work. Now do it in a mental state that matches its importance. That is the real opportunity in front of you.
"The goal is not to be busy. The goal is to be energized by work that matters."
